Gospel workers in Iraq minister among minority refugees
Several times a week, Streams of Living Water missionaries Michael* and Ruth* travel more than an hour to refugee camps near Mosul, Iraq, the ancient site of Nineveh. The camps are home to around 10,000 Yazidi people, who fled persecution from ISIS in 2014.
Those who didn’t escape were either executed or enslaved, and ten years later, thousands are still missing. Michael and Ruth believe that the only solution to the Yazidi crisis is Christ.
The Yazidis follow an ancient religion, drawing scorn from Muslims who call them “devil worshippers.” Those who leave their religion are seen as cultural traitors, which makes it difficult for Christianity to grow among them.
During their visits, Michael and Ruth host children's programs, offer medical assistance, distribute care packages, meet with young people and give workshops for the elderly. Faithfully and patiently, the Egyptian couple have worked to breach the cloud of unbelief surrounding the Yazidis, one refugee at a time.
Pray for a cultural awakening in the Yazidi people, especially among the refugees outside of Mosul. Pray for Michael and Ruth to be faithful and protected.
