In Juba, South Sudan, a small girls' orphanage called House of Hope is home to 48 young women. These girls come from a variety of backgrounds, but all have at least one thing in common: each has been rescued from the ravages of a war-torn nation and the risk of being trafficked.
Each girl at House of Hope, part of our Streams of Living Water ministry, comes from a difficult and complex background and needs special care. The staff works tirelessly to provide for their daily needs, provide education and help them grow spiritually.
Recently Lily, a staff member, realized that they were out of funds to cover the girls’ expenses and had to start digging into their emergency fund.
Lily called the Cairo office to see if extra gifts had come in, but what was there could not cover all of their expenses. She could not help but cry, both physically and spiritually, for the Lord's intervention.
One of the mothers who helps her at the orphanage came in with a long list of needs for the week - none of which they could cover. So they both went to prayer.
Soon, one of the guards announced visitors. Judging from their car and clothing, they were important people in the community. Their uncle, a well respected man, had just passed away. Lily wondered what that had to do with the orphanage, but soon found out that so many gifts had been given to this family in honor of their uncle that they had more than they could handle. They wanted to donate a bull to the House of Hope!
Lily ran to the mother to tell her what God had done, but before any words came out of her mouth the mother said, “Do you think we can economize our expenses by not eating meat this week?” When she heard what had just happened they were both in tears and praising our Lord. The Lord sent a hundred times more than what they would have saved!
Before 2:30 p.m. that afternoon, the bull was in the compound. And they proudly can sing, “The young lions lack and suffer hunger, but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.” Psalm 34:10
