Get to know the OneWay team! This week we'd like to introduce you to one of the people working behind the scenes at OneWay to help Reach People.
Serena Nottingham was introduced to OneWay while she was a student at Moody Bible Institute.
OneWay founder Michael Thompson was a guest speaker in the Music department, and he shared how OneWay was passionate about using the arts to share the Gospel. “Maybe you don’t know specifically how you want to use your gifting, whether that’s music or photography, but all you know is that you want to use it for Jesus and His Gospel,” Michael explained at the time. “Maybe that’s all you know and that’s the most important thing!” She decided to join the work God is doing at OneWay this fall as a one-year resident, using her gift and talents in the area of worship.
These days, you can find Serena in “The Blue House” where she lives with other OneWay residents. She is gaining real-time ministry experience as well as being mentored and discipled.
As a OneWay resident, Serena has been blessed by the accountability, the calling to a deeper life in righteousness and the desire for her heart to grow in Christ Jesus. It reminds her of one of her favorite quotes from C. S. Lewis: “No man knows how bad he is till he has tried to be very good . . . Christ, because He was the only man who never yielded to temptation, is also the only man who knows to the full what temptation means—the only complete realist.”
Serena loves adventures, including mountain climbing. The first-ever mountains she hiked were the Swiss Alps, which was one of the biggest blessings of her life. A huge factor in Serena’s life was her grandmother. “My grandma was one of my best friends, one of the most impactful people in my life, and someone who I pray to be like. I know that I am where I am today because of her prayers,” Serena says.
